What the linen cupboard smells like now
Our washing machine is elderly and honest about it, and for a while everything that came out of it smelled faintly of nothing at all, which is somehow worse than smelling of the wrong thing. Clean, technically, but forgettable clean.
I added a scoop of scent booster beads to a load of towels mostly out of curiosity, half expecting the smell to fade by the time they dried. It didn't. Two weeks later I opened the linen cupboard for a fresh pillowcase and the whole cupboard had taken on the scent, not just that one load.
How much to actually use
The scoop that comes in the tub is generous, and I found a level scoop was plenty, more became slightly too much for a small load. I add it straight into the drum before the clothes, not into the detergent drawer, which the packaging also recommends.
It layers well under our usual detergent rather than fighting it. I was worried about two competing smells and instead got one, rounder one.
Thành, who claims to have no opinion on how the laundry smells, noticed within a week anyway, picking up a folded shirt and remarking on it before he'd even put it on. That's the most reliable review I have.
The tub is large enough that I've stopped rationing it the way I did the first month, when I still didn't trust it would last. It does.
